Happy New Year everyone! It’s the start of a brand new year and a brand new decade. This is the time to pause to reflect on the year that has been, and what we want from the year to come. It’s a great time to set your intention for the next 12 months. And to think about the things you’ve learned from the previous year and how you can make this year even better.
Happy new year vision board
Something that I used to do for many years is a vision board. I would buy a large piece of cardboard, and go through all my favourite magazines. It was fun to cut out pictures of the things I wanted to attract into my life, or the things that I wanted to accomplish. I would then stick my vision board up on the wall, all excited about what was to come.
Curve balls, anyone?
But there was a problem every year. About half way through I would tear down my vision board, frustrated and stressed and angry. This year was NOT turning out as I had hoped, wanted or expected! There was always something that came up that really challenged me, that tested my ideas and expectations. It honestly took years before I realised that I cannot possibly control everything in my world. And unfortunately life has a way of teaching us these lessons the hard way. Life will keep throwing curve balls until we learn this lesson, and even then it will keep throwing curve balls just in case we forget!
Surrendering
Last year was the first year I didn’t do a vision board. Life was throwing me challenges right from the start and I decided instead to let things be as they were, and surrender. I decided to see what the year brought and not try to control my way through it. There was no goal setting and I didn’t think too much about what I wanted. It was the most freeing thing I did for myself! I felt so relieved that the pressure was lifted, so unburdened, and it felt GREAT!
Who do you want to be?
This year, I decided to branch back into the vision-boarding arena. But I wanted to do it differently, with a change of mindset. I took my lessons learned and didn’t just focus on what I wanted to do and attract, but put more attention on the person I wanted to BE. I wrote out my affirmations and stuck them right in the middle, so I would be reminded of my-Self, and my purpose. These affirmations would remind me of all the things that bring me joy, that lift me up and inspire me. I also wanted to remember that even though life will continue to throw curve balls, I have the power within me to deal with them as they arise.
The new year is a happy time to reflect
So I invite you to sit and reflect at the start of this new year. Not just on what you want for the following 12 months, but on the lessons you learned last year. How can grow from them this year? I would like to invite you to reflect on the person you want to BECOME, and not just on the things you want to do, or have. When we step into our power and align with our purpose, we allow ourselves to shine brightly without the pressure.
