Mindfulness and Reiki are key to conscious awareness and self-empowerment. Mindfulness is the art of becoming more aware of your thoughts, feelings and emotions. It could be described as improved attention on the inner Self rather than just focusing on the outer world. By being more aware of our inner self and our mind, it gives us the power to act, think and respond with greater awareness.
Mind-body connection
It might help to know a little fun fact! It takes approximately 17 seconds for your biochemistry to react to a single thought and align your body with the vibration of that thought. In other words, your mind, body, actions, posture, every part of your being will always align to the vibration of your thoughts.
For example, I might look in the mirror one morning and think ‘why did I have that pizza last night! Now my belly is bloated and I really wish I hadn’t done that, I’m so stupid’. 17 seconds later my body has responded to that thought and now my posture is slumped, I feel heavy and miserable, the morning traffic annoys me and I start getting frustrated at my work colleagues. Every thought has a ripple effect. When you throw a pebble into water, it creates ripples. The pebble is your thought and the ripples are the effects on your mind and body. These ripples then create even more ripples out into your experience of the world.
YOU are in control of your thoughts
The good news is that if the pebble is your thought, you are the person throwing the pebble. You have control over where that pebble lands. We can all choose our thoughts; this is where being mindful comes in. When we are more consciously aware of our thoughts we can start making better choices. We can start directing our thoughts to create more positive experiences.
An inspirational story
My grandma passed away recently at the incredible age of 97 years. Her whole life she has always said she felt so blessed. I’ve always admired that, as she could so easily have complained and had a negative mindset. She worked as a young nurse in Singapore when the Japanese invaded, she moved overseas to Melbourne later in life, she suffered a stroke, survived a hip replacement at 96 years old, and broke her arm and was in pain for the last few months of her life. But every time I saw her, she was always so happy! She would entertain me with stories of her life, of how she loved to dance when she was younger, of her incredible late husband (my grandfather), and of her friends and social life. She would also tell me how grateful and how blessed she was.
Mindfulness, Reiki and self-empowerment
We always have a choice on how to see the world and ourselves. We can choose to see ourselves as a victim, the world working against us. Or we can choose to see the world as an opportunity, and to feel grateful for our time here on the planet. When we are mindful of our inner Self, we can become more aware of our thoughts and how they influence how we feel, speak, and act. When we’re mindful of our thoughts, we are more aware of the ripple effect it has on our very being, as well as the people around us.
Reiki and mindfulness are key
So how can Reiki help? Reiki connects us more deeply with our Self and our inner world. I’ve noticed through practicing Reiki that I’m more calm, more grounded and more present. When I have a Reiki treatment, my attention is more focused inward, I’m more mindful and aware, and I therefore feel more empowered within myself. Mindfulness and Reiki to me are absolutely key in taking back control of my mind and standing in my power.
