Reiki for Anxiety
Did you know, anxiety is the most common mental health condition in Australia? 1 in 3 women, and 1 in 5 men will experience anxiety at some stage in their lives (beyond blue anxiety). In my experience as a Reiki healer, I see many clients experiencing anxiety symptoms. These can range from the physical (panic attacks, chest tightening and rapid breathing), to the mental and emotional (excessive worry, fear, and obsessive thinking). The good news is that many clients come to Reiki for anxiety, and it has been shown to help them enormously.
Everything is energy, including anxiety
Reiki is ‘universal life force energy’. Since everything is energy, including your physical body, thoughts and emotions. Reiki can help you to calm your emotions, dissolve energy blockages, and smooth out excessive energy build-ups. By practicing Reiki, we can begin to quiet the mind and soothe the nervous system. Reiki also helps to improve clients’ abilities to breathe at a slower pace. This in turn can help reduce the symptoms of anxiety.
Anxiety on a deeper level
On a deeper level, anxiety usually stems from someone going through a stressful, fearful or surprising experience. This experience can be a once-off significant life event, or it can be several experiences over a prolonged time. It can involve other people, such as parents or care-givers when growing up in childhood, or it can be a significant experience such as an unexpected death of a loved one, or any other surprising or fearful event. People then develop anxiety when the body and mind get triggered back to this event. Triggers can range across many different things, such as a smell or sound, to a place, location, or the name of a person or event.
Emotions become familiar and automatic
Additionally, people are memory-making machines. We tend to hold memories in not just our conscious and subconscious mind, but our physical and energetic body too. People are also habitual. When we experience a feeling, emotion or sensation over and over again, we get used to it and it becomes familiar. Even if it’s a ‘negative’ experience such as anxiety, if it’s familiar, it is very easy to automatically go back to that feeling, even if the trigger is very small, or there is no obvious trigger at all.
Reiki boosts your mood
Reiki helps clear your energy and energetic body. It can help improve your sleep, and it can boost your mood (therefore reducing anxiety-driven or negative thought patterns). Reiki healing is powerful, yet very relaxing and enjoyable! If you are experiencing anxiety, I would encourage you to give Reiki a go. You might be surprised at the results!
