Reiki healing for grief

Recently, it feels as if grief is swirling all around me. Reiki clients, friends and family are all going through various stages of grief for their loved ones. It seems to be a good time to share how Reiki healing can help with the process of grief.

Grief for loved ones

On Sunday 28th February, Dad and I went to the cemetery together. It was both my mum and my dad’s mum’s birthdays that day, and we were visiting their respective graves together. Later that afternoon, I received a text from a friend who told me his Mum passed away that day. And the following Sunday, a Reiki client texted, telling me her Dad had passed the day before.

Death is all around us

Death is not something we commonly talk about, and as such it can be an awkward, messy and uncomfortable conversation when it inevitably arises. But it doesn’t have to be that way. The more we can talk about death, and the more we can understand it, the easier talking about it becomes.

The spiral of eternity

In Reiki, practitioners use particular symbols to assist in their Reiki healings. One of the most ancient and enduring symbols is the spiral, and it is a part of many spiritual symbols, including those used in Reiki. The spiral represents the universal pattern of evolution and growth; of birth, death and rebirth. It also represents eternal truth, and expanding our consciousness and awareness. The truth is that our spirit or soul never really dies, it merely changes into a different form. Once we can understand this process of transformation, it can help to ease our hearts and minds, knowing that everything is a continuous shifting of energy.

Reiki healing for grief

Of course we are human, and so we will go through a whole range of emotions in relation to the passing of someone we love and care about. This is a normal, natural part of the grieving process. When experiencing grief, we still need to acknowledge our emotions, and allow ourselves to feel. This is where Reiki can really help. Reiki helps us to relax our physical body, as well as calm our mind and emotions to bring us back into a state of peace. Reiki soothes us, and restores our vital energy, enabling us to process our grief with more ease.
