We absorb so much throughout the day—other people’s emotions, workplace stress, family dynamics, even the subtle influences of TV or the news. If we don’t clear or protect our energy before bed, it follows us into our sleep. This is one of the first things many students notice after completing Reiki Level 1 training: they start sleeping better!

My Own Experience with Sleep & Energy
Even after years as a Reiki Master, I still notice the difference when I forget to clear my energy.
Recently, I trialled a Whoop band (like an Apple watch but focused on tracking sleep and recovery). One night, after watching my fav TV show Survivor, I accidentally forgot my usual bedtime energy cleanse (too distracted with my fav player being voted out!). I ended up waking up at 4am from a very stressful dream. I found myself thinking of a friend I’d seen earlier that day and feeling annoyed.
Using the Reiki symbols
Half-asleep, I drew Reiki symbols over my crown and heart. Instantly, I felt lighter and drifted back to sleep. The next morning, in my full self-Reiki practice, I realized I’d picked up my friend’s heavy emotions. After clearing it, I felt refreshed, energized, and ready for the gym.
This is exactly why I emphasize boundaries so strongly in Reiki courses. Sleep is the first area most students see a big change, and it ripples out into every part of their lives—health, relationships, creativity, even confidence.
