When Life Cracks You Open
When life cracks you open, it rarely asks for permission.
One moment, everything feels stable and familiar, and the next…everything has changed. It might be a relationship breakup, a career change, becoming a parent, or simply the quiet realisation that the life you’ve built no longer fits the person you’re becoming.
These moments can feel disorienting and uncomfortable, but they are also deeply transformative. They force you to confront parts of yourself that have been waiting, often for years, to be seen.
Awakening to your true nature
In the spiritual world, incredible transformative life shifts are often called an awakening. Sometimes it’s a full on kundalini awakening, an intense physiological and energetic process of shedding and activating. Other times it’s a spiritual awakening, where you might have a deep psychological and perspective shift, often following a dark night of the soul.
And sometimes? It’s an identity shift. A completely human experience. It’s the moment your old identity begins to dissolve, who you were no longer resonate anymore, and your nervous system has to adjust to a new reality. And while this process can bring clarity and growth, it can also leave you feeling emotionally raw, untethered, and unsure of where you stand.
Regardless of the pathway, the experience is similar — you begin to wake up to yourself.
Awakening Expands Your Awareness
When your system is awakened, your awareness expands. You begin to see patterns that were previously invisible to you. You recognise behaviours, beliefs, and emotional wounds that once operated quietly in the background of your life.
This can feel liberating at first, like a veil has been lifted. But as your awareness deepens, you may also come face to face with emotions and memories you didn’t realise you were carrying. These parts of yourself rise to the surface not to punish you, but to be integrated.
However, your ego-mind and nervous system doesn’t always understand this! Your ego simply registers that something is changing, and change, even when positive, can feel like a threat. It then sends a ‘danger’ message to your nervous system, and your nervous system in turn, switches on to get ready for the potential threat.
My Kundalini Awakening Stripped Me Back
My own Kundalini awakening was one of the most profound examples of this. It didn’t feel like stepping into light; it felt like being stripped bare. My body would shake, emotions surfaced with an intensity I couldn’t control, and parts of myself that had been long suppressed suddenly demanded my attention.
It was as if every protective layer I had built over the years was being peeled away, leaving me exposed to everything underneath. There were moments I felt completely ungrounded, like my nervous system had been pushed beyond its limits. My sensitivity heightened, my emotional world deepened, and I realised very quickly that awakening wasn’t just about expansion. It was about integration.
Learning how to live inside this new level of awareness without losing my sense of stability was key. This is the part of awakening that few people talk about, because it isn’t glamorous or sexy. It’s confronting, humbling, and raw.
Why Grounding Is the Missing Piece
What I eventually came to understand is that activation and awakenings open the door, but grounding allows you to walk through it safely. Without grounding, your nervous system stays in a heightened ‘stress’ state, constantly trying to process what has been revealed.
This can leave you feeling anxious, emotionally overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself. When your identity shifts or you go through big life changes, you may find yourself searching for more answers, more healing, or perhaps even more activation, believing that the next breakthrough will finally bring relief.
But often, what your system needs isn’t more opening and expansion. It needs the opposite. It needs stillness and safety. The opportunity to land. When life cracks you open, your nervous system isn’t just asking for change – it’s asking for support to stabilise that change.
Returning to the Earth
This is one of the reasons I’ve chosen to take some time out for myself at the end of March, and do my shamanic training. After years of awakening and expansion, I’ve realised that what I’m craving for the most is time in nature and grounding.
I’ll be spending 2 weeks in the bush, away from the noise of daily life, with no internet. It’s a beautiful opportunity to reconnect with the earth and allow my system to fully integrate everything it has been through.
Shamanic work is deeply earth-based, and we work with the elements of nature. It brings you back into your body and reminds you that healing doesn’t just happen through awareness, but through presence. Nature has a way of regulating the nervous system naturally. When you step away from constant stimulation, your body remembers how to slow down, to breathe, and to feel safe again.
The Integration Phase Is Where Healing Happens
Many people who are going through major life changes find themselves in this messy in-between space. They’ve shed an old version of themselves, but they haven’t fully landed in the new one yet. This can feel super uncomfortable, like standing on a wobble-board! You may question yourself, your decisions, and your direction. But this phase is not a mistake. It’s part of the process.
When life cracks you open and you have a ‘tower moment’ where everything feels like it’s crumbling, it actually gives you the opportunity to rebuild yourself in a way that is more aligned, more grounded, and more authentic.
This is where Reiki & Energy Alchemy sessions can be incredibly supportive. These sessions help calm and regulate your nervous system, allowing your body to integrate the emotional and energetic shifts you’ve been moving through. From this place of safety, clarity naturally begins to return.
Ready to book in?
I’ll be away from 18-31st March while I complete my training, and back to work on 2nd April. If you’ve been moving through change and feel like your nervous system is still catching up, Reiki & Energy Alchemy might be what you need to ground and feel more supported and stable during this process.
My sessions are designed to guide you in this messy phase. To help your body release tension, restore balance, and reconnect with a deeper sense of stability. This is where you stop bracing, you finally exhale, and come home to yourself.
