Why Community Matters on the Spiritual Path
I was reminded the other day of why community matters on the spiritual path. I was wandering through one of my favourite places — a quiet bookstore in the city — when a little children’s book caught my eye: Big Panda, Tiny Dragon. One of the questions inside asked: “What is more important: the journey or the destination?”
The answer? “The company.”
In that moment, it landed so deeply. Because it’s true — the people who walk beside us shape the quality of our entire life. Our relationships, our support systems, and the communities we feel safe in are, in many ways, our greatest medicine.
We’re Not Meant to Do Life Alone
No person is an island. We are social beings, wired for tribe, co-regulation, storytelling, and shared experience. For safety. joy, belonging and love. Even for mating — humans are literally hardwired to bond.
Yet in a world where everyone is busy, distracted by social media, and juggling a million responsibilities, genuine connection requires conscious intention. We have to make space for it — for the people who lift us, see us, and understand the parts of us we don’t show to everyone.
Especially the spiritual parts.
When Spirituality Feels Like a “Secret Pleasure”
Something I’ve noticed in so many of my Reiki clients is how spirituality often becomes a private interest. They listen to the podcasts, read the books, scroll the Instagram reels, maybe even book their first Reiki healing…
But they don’t have anyone to talk to about any of it.
One client came in recently and shared exactly this. She loved everything spiritual — energy healing, intuition, astrology, manifestation — but no one in her world believed in any of it. She had big questions but nowhere to ask them.
This is more common than you’d think. So many people love spirituality but feel a bit “weird” or alone in it. They don’t want to be judged… they just want someone to get it.
My Own Path Was Once a Lonely One
When my kundalini started stirring back in 2022, and the full lightning bolt awakening occurred in 2023, I didn’t know a single soul who had experienced anything similar. It was wild, destabilising, magical, confusing… and so deeply lonely.
Eventually mid-2024 I found a book called Working with Kundalini by Mary Shutan — and for the first time, I felt seen, heard and understood. I carried that book around like a bible last year. I only wish I’d had it sooner.
We all need people who understand our spiritual world — the highs, the lows, the mystical, and the moments that don’t make logical sense.
When My Gifts Started Opening, No One Was Talking
After my Reiki Level 1, my intuition exploded open. I was seeing spirits, astral travelling, having past-life visions — all the things no one warned me about. My Reiki Master taught traditional Usui Reiki and didn’t want to talk about anything “mystical.” So again… I felt alone.
Even other healers weren’t always open to having honest conversations. I once reached out to another healer for a friendly coffee, mentioned something spiritual in the text — and never heard from her again!
When I first had psychic attacks and saw darker entities, I had absolutely no one to turn to for help. I didn’t know what was happening. I even went to a spiritual pastor for deliverance because I was so desperate for answers. It was a steep, messy, deeply humbling learning curve.
And that’s exactly why community matters.
Talking Takes the Power Away
Whether it’s light language, Reiki experiences, kundalini symptoms, psychic visions, or shadow work — the moment we speak something out loud to someone who understands, the fear dissolves.
Talking brings the shadows into the light, and gives clarity, healing, and perspective. Sharing with others turns chaos into understanding, and helps us feel human again. This is true not just for spiritual challenges, but for everything in life. A trusted friend, healer, therapist, or mentor can guide us back to ourselves — simply by listening and holding space without judgement.
The Power of Connection With People Who “Get It”
These days, I’m blessed with spiritual friends, Reiki friends, and intuitive healers I can message anytime. If I’m going through something — anything — I can lean on them. And interestingly, when I’m in the middle of a psychic attack or feeling energetically wobbly, sometimes just texting a friend shifts the energy instantly. Their presence and frequency alone can help me reconnect to my intuition, ground, and clear whatever is happening.
We all need that. Every one of us. That’s what spiritual community gives us.
Community Is Medicine
Community in general brings safety, comfort, joy, laughter, and gratitude — all powerful frequency-raisers. It helps us regulate our nervous system, and reminds us we’re not alone. Community matters on the spiritual path especially, as it strengthens our intuition and psychic abilities, and lifts our vibration simply by being amongst like minded people.
A Space to Belong for Reiki Healers
For those who have completed any level of Reiki (with any Reiki Master!) I have created my Reiki Healer Community Circle — a nurturing, inclusive gathering for healers to come together in a supportive, heart-centred space.
No judgment, no pressure, just community, connection, and shared exploration. A place where you can talk about Reiki, energy, intuition, kundalini, spirit guides, psychic experiences, astrology, crystals, or anything your “mainstream” friends might not understand.
This is a place where you can feel seen, safe, and held.
