Honouring Each Other’s Imperfections
When I visited the Meiji Gardens in Tokyo during my trip to Japan recently, the message of honouring each other’s imperfections came through so clearly. The Meiji Shrine is one of the most sacred Shinto sites, surrounded by lush greenery and towering trees that seem to hum with ancient wisdom. As I walked quietly along the path, I felt the presence of the kodama—the tree spirits—and channelled a message that has stayed with me ever since:
“Accept everything as it is. See the beauty in all things exactly as they are. Just look at the trees—each one is beautiful in its own unique way, even when its branches twist and turn in unexpected directions.”
It wasn’t until weeks later, sitting on my couch after a swim at the beach and opening the book Wabi Sabi, that I realised what I had channelled that day was the pure essence of wabi sabi itself.
What is wabi sabi?
Wabi sabi is a Japanese philosophy that can’t quite be translated into words—it’s more of a feeling, a way of being. It’s an intuitive understanding of beauty that embraces the impermanent, the imperfect, and the incomplete nature of life. It’s found in the cracks of a weathered teacup, in the rough bark of an old tree, in the quiet simplicity of daily moments.
In Reiki and energy healing, we work with this same principle. Every emotion, every experience, every scar—physical or emotional—holds its own vibration and story. Through energy healing and Reiki, we understand that nothing within us is “wrong” or “broken.” Everything is energy in motion, returning to balance when we stop blocking or resisting it.
Self-Acceptance as a Spiritual Practice
As humans, we often strive to “fix” ourselves—to go faster, be better, stay positive. But wabi sabi reminds us that balance and healing occurs not through doing things faster and harder, but rather through gentle self-acceptance. The same is true for energy healing and spiritual growth.
When I work with clients in my Reiki healing or Reiki + Coaching sessions (soon to be merged into Reiki & Energy Alchemy), I see how powerful it is when someone finally softens into their humanity. When they learn to stop judging their emotions, and instead allow them to flow. Whether through Reiki, Seichim, light language activations, and especially with kundalini awakenings, the energy begins to shift the moment we stop resisting who we truly are.
Our imperfections are not flaws to be hidden—they are a part of who we are that really just need love and acceptance.
Embracing the Shadows Within
There was a time I tried to suppress the parts of myself that felt “too much”—the anger, frustration, or even the fear. But the truth is, we can’t fully embody our light if we’re afraid or embarrassed about our shadows. We are multidimensional in nature. We are not ‘just light’ or ‘just dark’…we are both.
Reiki teaches us to see energy beyond the binary description of good and bad. We are both light and dark, joy and pain, expansion and contraction. When we honour all parts of ourselves with compassion rather than judgement, it opens the way to healing and full acceptance.
That’s where true energy alchemy occurs—transforming resistance into ease, not by fighting it, but by witnessing, accepting and eventually loving all aspects of ourselves.
Honouring each other’s imperfections
When we can accept our own imperfections, it becomes easier to honour those in others. We stop expecting perfection, stop holding people to impossible standards, and begin to see the divine essence within everyone.
This is the heart of wabi sabi—and the heart of Reiki healing. Every person who crosses our path is a mirror, reflecting something within us that wants to be seen or healed. The more compassion we hold for ourselves, the more compassion we can extend outward, creating deeper, more authentic connections.
Wabi sabi opens us to a softer, slower, more loving way of life. One where we release judgement in favour of curiosity, and fear in favour of love.
A Safe Space for All of You
In my Reiki sessions, there is no judgement—only presence. You can bring your emotions, your shadows, your fears, even the parts of yourself you’ve previously kept hidden. Everything is welcome.
Because I’ve been there too. I’ve made mistakes, said the wrong things, and learned through experience that being human is messy and magnificent all at once. I hold space for your wholeness—to help you feel safe, grounded, and more connected to the light within you. That’s the beauty of my work as a Reiki Master, Seichim energy healer, intuitive channeller and light language activator – it all leads back to the same place – your heart.
Need Support and Guidance?
When we honour each other’s imperfections, life becomes lighter. The world becomes softer. It’s freeing.
