The Sacred Pause
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do for your energy…is absolutely nothing.
Which, admittedly, isn’t always what we want to hear. We have this strange belief that if something isn’t moving, we need to make it move.
Business feeling stagnant? Work harder. Creatively blocked? Try harder. Can’t make a decision? Think harder. Don’t know what Spirit is telling you? Meditate harder. Pull another tarot card. Ask again.
But sometimes all that effort creates so much noise that we can’t hear anything at all. Sometimes what we actually need isn’t another answer, another strategy or another thing to do.
Sometimes we need a pause.
When Everything Feels Stuck
I’m actually writing this from inside one of those periods right now.
Things feel a little stagnant. I’m not entirely sure what the next move is. The old me would have stressed, worried and tried to figure everything out.
But now, after years of going through a full blown kundalini awakening, practicing Reiki and energy work on the daily, and building up my trust so strongly in Spirit, I know that right now, I’m probably not meant to know.
Maybe I’m not stuck. Maybe I’m in the pause.
When we believe we’re stuck, there’s an underlying assumption that something has gone wrong. We should be further ahead. We should know what we’re doing. We should have the answer by now.
The sacred pause asks something different of us. It asks us to trust and to create some space. And to stop pushing long enough to notice what our mind, body, spirit and energy actually need.
Your Timing Doesn’t Have to Match Everyone Else’s
We’re moving into spring here in Melbourne, and everything around us seems to be saying: fresh energy, sunshine, get outside and do something!
And maybe that’s exactly what you need. Maybe sunshine, movement, fresh air and getting out into the world is precisely what your energy has been asking for.
Or maybe you need to lie on the couch! (Me right now!). Both are allowed.
Someone else’s season of expansion might coincide with your season of recovery. Someone else might be launching, travelling, socialising and creating while your nervous system is gently asking: Can we please just have a minute?
This is where self-trust comes into play. Your body has its own wisdom, your energy has its own rhythms. Your spiritual growth doesn’t need to happen on anybody else’s timeline.
Learning to listen to your own inner guidance system and Spirit is part of the work.
Spirit Has Terrible Timing
Some of the clearest spiritual guidance I’ve ever received has arrived in deeply sacred locations.
The shower. The gym. And, inexplicably, the toilet. 😂
Rarely does it arrive when I’m sitting in meditation thinking, Okay Spirit, I need the answer. What am I supposed to do?
Usually, I’ve asked the question earlier. Maybe I’ve sat with it during meditation, journalled about it or simply put it out there. And then I let it go.
Later, I’m washing my hair, or I’m at the gym listening to music and lifting weights, or apparently I’m sitting on the toilet minding my own business.
And suddenly—there it is. An idea. An insight. The aha moment.
I’ve learned over the years that my intuition often seems to speak loudest when I’m not desperately trying to hear it. When we’re relaxed, we’re not grasping or trying to force an outcome. There’s space to actually listen and hear what Spirit or your higher self is trying to tell you.
Rest Is Part of the Work
We understand this when it comes to our physical bodies.
If you went to the gym every day, trained intensely for hours and never gave your muscles time to recover, eventually your body would have something to say about it.
Rest and recovery are part of training. So why don’t we think about our minds, nervous systems and energy in the same way? Our brains work incredibly hard for us every day. We make decisions, solve problems, communicate, process emotions, plan, create and respond to a constant stream of information.
Sometimes the system simply needs to switch off for a while.
Sleep matters. So does sunshine, movement, nature, music, laughter and play. Connecting with friends, receiving Reiki healing, and doing something completely different from your normal routine.
And sometimes, doing absolutely nothing is the thing your body is craving the most. We respect recovery when we’re building muscle. Why don’t we respect recovery when we’re building a life?
Trusting the Sacred Pause
I think this is where spirituality becomes a genuine practice rather than simply something we talk about. It’s relatively easy to trust when everything is flowing. But it’s much harder when nothing seems to be happening.
When you don’t know what comes next, when you’ve asked Spirit for guidance and haven’t received an obvious answer, it’s so challenging to not want to put your boots on and think ‘fine, I’ll do it myself!’
But the sacred pause isn’t about giving up our agency.
It’s about knowing the difference between aligned action and frantically doing things because we’re uncomfortable with stillness. Sometimes self-trust sounds like: I don’t have the answer today, and I don’t need to.
Often it’s a case of asking the question, then leaving enough space to allow the answer to drop in. In the meantime, look after your body, go and live your life. And let the answer come to you.
Maybe it will arrive tomorrow, or next week. Maybe in the shower, or half way through a set of squats. Sometimes, apparently, the answer will drop in when you’re on the toilet!
Clear the Noise and Create the Space
Sometimes, we do need a little help getting to that place.
When our minds are full, our energy feels heavy or we’ve absorbed everyone else’s opinions, expectations and emotions, it can become difficult to hear our own inner wisdom underneath all that noise.
This is a big part of what we do in my Reiki & Energy Alchemy sessions.
You have the space to speak freely about what’s happening – the frustrations, the confusion, the things you’re questioning and the things you secretly want. We bring what’s swirling around inside you out into the open, look at what’s actually yours, and begin clearing the energy, patterns and noise that are no longer serving you.
Through Reiki, intuitive guidance and energy work, we create space for you to come back into greater alignment with yourself.
Not so I can hand you all the answers (I am not your guru). But so you can hear yourself more clearly.
We can bring the questions you’ve been carrying into the session with intention, then step back from trying to force the answer. We allow the Reiki to flow, the energy to settle and trust that whatever clarity is needed can arrive in its own time.
Need support?
I’m practising this too myself. I’m currently in the pause and I have no idea what’s coming next. Things are not going the way I thought they would, and instead of getting frustrated, I’ve taken a step back.
I’m allowing things to flow and I trust and know the answers will come to me in divine time – not when I’m trying to force it, but more likely in the gym or in the shower.
And I’m also getting the right support too. I’m talking to trusted people, having healings when needed, and resting (a lot).
If this is you and you need some support, I’m here for you. You can read more and book in for a Reiki & Energy Alchemy session here.
