Healing Is Not for the Faint-Hearted
Healing is not for the faint-hearted. And neither is opening up spiritually! I hear it all the time:
“I want to open up my third eye!”
“I want to develop my psychic abilities.”
“I would love to see my spirit guides”
And I understand the fascination. I really do.
I felt drawn to energy healing because I loved the magic of it. Spirit. Energy. The stars, and the mystery. The idea that there was this entire invisible world around us that we were only beginning to understand.
What I didn’t realise at the start, was that opening myself to the light would also introduce me to the shadow. The ghosts, the fears, the wounds. The parts of myself I didn’t yet have the courage, knowledge – or even awareness – to face.
Everyone wants to open their psychic gifts…until they start seeing things they don’t want to see.
You Can’t Just Open to the Light
There’s an idea within spirituality that becoming more intuitive means accessing all the beautiful stuff. Your spirit guides and angels. Seeing colours, having visions, and receiving psychic downloads.
And yes, those experiences are wonderful and can absolutely be part of a spiritual journey.
But developing deeper awareness doesn’t come with a convenient little filter where we get to choose what we’re willing to see.
Sometimes what greater awareness reveals, isn’t remotely light and love. And often it’s not something outside of us. Sometimes it’s us.
The deeper layers that live beneath the surface. A subconscious belief, suppressed anger, grief and fear. Shame. An old identity. The desperate need to be liked. The relationship we know isn’t working, but we don’t want to admit it. Boundaries we are scared to express.
Sometimes the darkness we encounter in healing is simply what we haven’t been willing or haven’t yet been ready to see.
And unfortunately, no matter how many crystals you use to ‘open up your third eye’ can stop you from avoiding the dark.
Everyone Wants Transformation Until…
Everyone wants to become more intuitive until their intuition tells them something inconvenient.
Everyone wants to heal until the thing that needs healing is the coping mechanism that has kept them safe for thirty years.
Everyone wants transformation until transformation starts dismantling their identity.
And everyone wants to “release what’s no longer serving me”…
Until it’s their relationship.
Their career, their friendship. The underlying need to be liked, a belief about who they are, or their carefully constructed sense of control.
Suddenly we’re not talking about a beautiful spiritual awakening anymore. We’re talking about confronting our fears, and making changes. And that can be terrifying.
I’ve Been Dragged to the Bottom of the Ocean
During some of the more intense waves of my kundalini awakening, I’ve repeatedly experienced a particular psychic image.
I’m underwater, being pulled deeper and deeper into the depths of the ocean until eventually I reach the bottom.
There’s a cave.
And inside are these strange little shapes – they look like ghosts or blobs with eyes.
They’re my fears.
Not literal monsters waiting at the bottom of the ocean, but symbols of my fears, emotions and parts of myself that I haven’t completely processed or understood yet.
I always have a choice when I arrive at this cave. I can choose to talk to these blobs one at a time, to find out who and what it is, where it came from, what it needs, accept it, process it, and eventually integrate it.
Or I can choose to ignore it and swim back to the top of the ocean again.
What do I choose? Honestly, it depends on my energy and mindset at the time of seeing the cave! If I’m tired and exhausted, I will choose not to proceed at that time. But I know eventually, I will need to face my deepest fears.
And eventually, there is usually a breakthrough. Energy moves powerfully through my body. Insights arrive. Something I couldn’t understand suddenly makes sense. An emotional layer releases.
Those moments can feel extraordinary. But to get to that point often takes courage, bravery, knowledge, awareness and capacity to dive into the darkest, scariest parts of us.
What Are You Actually Afraid to See?
This is why I think the obsession with “opening” the third eye can sometimes miss the point.
Instead of immediately asking “How do I open my third eye?”
Perhaps a more interesting question is: “What part of me feels safer keeping it closed?”
For many people, it’s not wanting to acknowledge how unhappy they actually are because if they did, they would have do something about it. Or perhaps it’s an underlying anger, jealousy, or resentment. It could be a deep seated fear of rejection, abandonment, or not feeling enough.
In my experience, one of the hardest emotions to release is often grief – it’s usually buried so deeply due to the immense pain that we would undoubtedly feel if it were to be released.
That’s where spirituality becomes much more interesting to me.
Instead of trying to force something open, we become curious about why we might be protecting it in the first place.
Sometimes It’s Energetic. Sometimes It’s Psychological.
This is why discernment is so important in healing.
Sometimes what we’re experiencing is energetic. Sometimes it’s psychological. And sometimes it’s emotional, relational, physical or yes, spiritual.
And often several layers are interacting at once.
If I label every uncomfortable experience as ‘negative energy’, I might completely miss the subconscious wound asking for my attention. But if I dismiss every energetic or spiritual experience as ‘just psychological’, I may also undermine a spiritual component invisible to the everyday human eye.
For me, the deepest healing has happened at the intersection of both.
We need both the spiritual AND the psychological. We need both energy discernment and energy protection, AND the ability to communicate our boundaries, express our feelings and needs, and be aware of our underlying wounds.
Understanding myself more deeply has meant accessing my intuition, energy, and psychic abilities, just as much as learning to understand my triggers, wounds and fears. It’s not enough to just be spiritually or energetically aware of something, we also need to know how to integrate it, and ultimately live in this reality too.
Sometimes seeing the darkness more clearly is exactly what allows us to stop being controlled by it.
Seichim Reiki Requires Real Participation
This is also why I describe Seichim Reiki as transformational with some care.
My experiences with Seichim have been deeply heart-opening, multidimensional and transformative. But energy healing isn’t something we outsource our transformation to.
Real transformation asks for our willing participation.
Energy work can support the process. But you still have to meet yourself, feel the feeling, and question the belief.
Seichim Reiki helps to uncover insights and allow deeper awareness…but you still have to have courage to have the conversation, set the boundary, and make the decision. Goddess Sekhmet can give you the energy and connection to Spirit…but only YOU can change the behaviour.
That’s where energy healing and psychological work can become incredibly powerful together.
Are You Ready to Go Deeper?
My next Seichim Reiki Level 1 course in Melbourne is 3–4 October.
Seichim / Sekhmet Reiki builds upon your existing Reiki foundations, which is why Usui Reiki Levels 1 and 2 are prerequisites for my course. We’ll explore another layer of energy healing, including Sekhmet’s deeply heart-centred and multidimensional qualities.
But I don’t teach deeper energy work because I want people desperately trying to become “more psychic”.
I teach it because I want people to become more discerning, more grounded and more trusting of themselves as their awareness expands.
Opening your psychic gifts isn’t just about meeting your spirit guides and angels. It takes courage to see both the light and the dark—outside of you and within you.
It’s not just about seeing the darkness in someone else. It’s being willing to see yourself clearly – and developing enough compassion, self-trust and courage to work with what you find.
Opening your third eye isn’t just about seeing more light and love. It’s about opening your eyes to what’s beneath the surface that you were previously too scared to see, and becoming someone who has the capacity to work with what you find.
Seichim Reiki can help you on your path to self-discovery. But YOU need to be willing to take that next step.
Are you ready? I’d love to have you on my next Seichim Reiki Course.
