Maybe You’re Not Lost. Maybe You’ve Changed.
Maybe you’re not lost. Maybe you’ve changed.
It’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. Because sometimes we reach a point in life where the things that used to make sense simply…don’t anymore.
The goals you were excited about don’t excite you in quite the same way. The pace you once thrived on feels exhausting. Certain friendships feel different. And your priorities shift.
The version of success you spent years working towards suddenly isn’t quite as appealing as you thought it would be.
And because we don’t necessarily know what we want instead, we assume something is wrong.
Why don’t I feel like myself?
Where has my motivation gone?
What am I supposed to do now?
Maybe nothing has gone wrong. Maybe you’ve changed.
When Your Old Life Doesn’t Quite Fit Anymore
I think one of the strangest parts of personal and spiritual growth is that our external lives don’t always change at the same speed we do.
Internally, something has shifted. But externally, everything still looks relatively similar. Same routines. Same responsibilities. Same expectations. Same goals sitting on the vision board.
Except now you’re looking at them thinking: Do I even want this anymore?
And there’s often an uncomfortable period where you know what doesn’t fit, but you haven’t worked out what comes next.
The old version of your life feels too small. The new one hasn’t fully appeared yet. And that in-between can feel a lot like being lost. But perhaps, your internal compass isn’t broken. Maybe it’s just pointing somewhere new.
I’ve Been Asking Myself This Too
For so many years, I genuinely wanted to build, grow and achieve.
I wanted a thriving business, to help people, and financial security and independence. I wanted to create courses, teach Reiki, see clients, build a team and keep moving forwards.
And I created that. I’m incredibly proud of what that version of me created. But this year, I’ve noticed that my definition of success is changing.
I still love my work and I’m still ambitious. I still get ridiculously excited about new ideas! But I also want more space. More simplicity, more time for myself, and more separation between my work and my personal life.
More room for relationships, travel, nature, creativity, rest and whatever else life might bring. For a while, part of me interpreted that shift as losing my drive.
Who am I if I don’t want to work the way I used to?
What I realised was that I hadn’t lost my ambition. What I am ambitious about has simply changed.
Peace, freedom and how I feel within my body and my mind matters more to me now. That doesn’t make the version of me who wanted something different wrong.
She got me here. But now something inside me is shifting in a big way.
You Don’t Have to Keep Wanting What You Used to Want
I think sometimes we feel strangely loyal to our old identities. We made a decision, set a goal and work towards building a life that we told everyone what we wanted.
And now we feel as though we need to keep wanting it. But you’re allowed to change.
You’re allowed to discover that something you desperately wanted five years ago isn’t particularly important to you anymore. You’re allowed to outgrow a goal without ever having reached it.
Your priorities are allowed to change. You’re allowed to want more. You’re allowed to want less.
Sometimes the version of you who got you here isn’t the version who needs to take you forward. That doesn’t mean rejecting who you were. It means allowing yourself to meet who you are now.
The In-Between Can Feel Uncomfortable
Of course, it’s much easier when the new direction arrives immediately. Oh! I don’t want THAT anymore because now I want THIS! Excellent. Problem solved. 😂
Unfortunately, life doesn’t always work like that. Sometimes there’s a gap, where you know something has changed, but you can’t quite name what. You feel restless, stagnant or disconnected.
You keep asking yourself what you should do next and nothing feels completely right.
This is often when we start searching outside ourselves for answers. We ask friends, google, journal, meditate, pull cards, ask Spirit for signs.
Sometimes all of those things can be incredibly helpful. But sometimes we simply need to accept that we are changing, and that’s ok.
Creating Space to Hear Yourself Again
This is something that comes up often in my Reiki & Energy Alchemy sessions.
People don’t always walk through my door with one obvious problem they want fixed. Sometimes they simply know something feels different.
They’re questioning a relationship, career, identity, direction or stage of life. They might feel stuck or disconnected from themselves, but they can’t quite explain why. That’s where I love combining mindset, intuitive work and Reiki healing.
We can talk through what’s happening. Get the thoughts, frustrations, fears and desires out of your head and into the open. Look at what’s yours and what might be noise you’ve absorbed from other people.
Then through Reiki and energy healing, we can begin clearing some of the energetic heaviness and create more space for you to reconnect with yourself.
Not so I can tell you what your next move should be. But so you can hear your own inner wisdom more clearly.
Clarity doesn’t come from someone giving you the answer. It comes from finally having enough space to hear yourself (and it’s way more empowering that way too!).
