The Light and Dark of Energy
In Reiki healing, it’s not often we talk of both the light and the dark of energy. We mostly hear about the light, love, and high vibrations.
But there’s another side to energy that isn’t spoken about as openly. And the truth is – if you want to feel truly empowered in your energy, your emotions, and your life, you need to understand both.
Not from a place of fear, but rather from a place of discernment, awareness, and self empowerment.
Everything Is Energy — Not Just the “Good” Parts
At its core, Reiki and energy healing are based on one fundamental truth: everything is energy.
Your thoughts and emotions carry energy. Your physical body, your environment, your relationships — all of it exists within a field of vibration. Some of that energy feels expansive, calm, and connected. Other energy can feel heavy, contracted, or unsettling. Energy is always moving, shifting, and responding.
But when it becomes stuck in your body, your emotions, or your energy field, it begins to feel dense. That’s when people start to feel overwhelmed, anxious, or “off”… without really understanding why.
Why Ignoring the “Dark” Creates More Fear
In many spiritual spaces, there’s a tendency to focus only on love, light, and positivity.
And while those are beautiful and important, ignoring the heavier side of energy doesn’t make it disappear. It just leaves you unprepared. When you feel something you don’t understand, whether it’s emotional overwhelm, a shift in energy, or something that feels “off”, your mind fills in the gaps.
And often, it fills them with fear.
My Experience: When I First Encountered the “Dark”
When I first started my Reiki journey, I was so excited!
I was opening up to my psychic gifts, experimenting with energy and healing, and everything felt incredible. And it was — I could feel the tangible shifts in my body, my mood was lighter, my mind clearer, and I had more energy than I’d had in years.
Reiki felt deeply aligned. Like I had finally found my “thing.” But then something else started happening. I began seeing, feeling, and sensing other energies creeping in.
When I tried to talk about it at the time, it was shut down. Those experiences weren’t considered part of Reiki — Reiki was unconditional love, and that was it.
But I knew what I was experiencing was real. I had done enough other training over the years to trust myself… but without guidance, it was confusing. And at times, it was terrifying.
Psychic awareness opened me up more
As my psychic awareness opened more, I started encountering negative energies too.
I started having psychic attacks, seeing negative entities…and my instinct was fear. I would try to clear things immediately, shielding myself, commanding them to leave, reacting from a place of urgency and panic.
During my kundalini awakening, this intensified even more.
My nervous system was already highly activated, and I was seeing and feeling things constantly — visions, sensations, energies that felt overwhelming and, at times, very confronting. There were moments I genuinely didn’t know how I was going to get through it. But something deeper in me knew I was meant to walk this path.
What I Eventually Realised
I started to see that not everything I was experiencing was external or “bad.”
Some of it was coming from within. Old emotions rising to the surface to be released – fear, grief, anger that had been stored in the body.
Some of it was ancestral too. Patterns and energies passed down, asking to be seen and cleared. Some of it was energy I had absorbed from other people (clients, environments) that I didn’t realise was attached.
And yes… sometimes there were more intense spiritual entities too. But the more I understood what I was experiencing, the less afraid I became.
What is this here to show me?
Instead of reacting, I became curious.
What is this here to show me?
What is this connected to?
These questions changed everything, because I realised something profound: the spiritual and the physical aren’t separate. They are deeply interconnected.
What I was seeing and feeling energetically often reflected something in my real, lived experience — my emotions, my past, my environment. Or they were linked to my beliefs or emotions.
As I developed my skills in Reiki healing and energy healing, and learned how to properly clear, process, and work with these energies, I became more grounded, more confident, and far less reactive.
What once terrified me… no longer holds that power.
Because now I understand it.
The Difference Between Fear and Discernment
Fear says: Something is wrong. I need to get rid of this.
Discernment says: Something feels off. Let me understand it.
When you develop this level of awareness through Reiki healing, you’re no longer reacting to everything you feel. You’re observing, noticing and understanding. That changes your entire relationship with energy.
This isn’t just about advanced spiritual experiences. Whenever you walk into any room and feel tension or you leave a conversation feeling drained, this is the same thing. You experience this when your mood shifts around certain people.
Without awareness, you think something is wrong with you. With discernment, you realise: that wasn’t mine. And that alone is incredibly freeing.
Education Removes Fear
The more you understand energy, the less afraid of it you become. What once felt overwhelming becomes manageable. What once felt confusing begins to make sense. And this is what we learn more of in my Reiki Level 3a Course: ‘Reiki Master Practitioner’.
This level goes beyond the foundations of Reiki healing and into advanced energy work — understanding the full spectrum of energy, developing discernment, clearing heavier influences, and strengthening your energy field.
It’s not about fear. It’s about confidence, clarity, and stepping into your power.

Coming Back Into Your Power
When you understand both the light and dark of energy, everything shifts. You stop fearing what you feel. You start trusting yourself, and feel grounded in your own energy. That’s where real power comes from.
Not avoiding energy…but in understanding it. 🤍
