Why Community Matters More Than Competition
In healing, why community matters more than competition becomes very clear the moment you realise you’re not meant to do this work alone.
And yet, so many Reiki healers are.
Behind the scenes, behind the social media, the events and workshops and clients, there can be a quiet sense of isolation. A feeling of figuring it all out on your own. Of navigating energy, clients, emotions, boundaries, and your own growth… without a space to truly talk about it.
Because in the healing space, there’s something that doesn’t get spoken about enough: the tension between community and competition.
When Healing Starts to Feel Like Competition
When I first found Reiki, I was completely hooked.
It felt like something in my soul had finally clicked into place. I had tried so many different paths – corporate life, human resources, teaching yoga and dance…but underneath all of it, there had always been this steady pull toward healing, energy, and wellbeing.
Reiki wasn’t just something I did. It was something I felt. It resonated deep in my being.
After Reiki Level 1, I practised on everything – friends, family, even my plants! After Reiki Level 2, I started my Reiki business quite quickly, and life was falling into place (finally). I was aligned, and life had started to turn around for the better.
But as soon as I stepped into the professional space, something unexpected happened. Instead of community… I was met with fierce competition.
The Reality No One Talks About
I was genuinely shocked.
Other Reiki healers didn’t welcome me in. Some saw me as a threat.
I had one healer threaten me repeatedly over the course of a year. Another tore down my posters. Another healer brazenly covered my flyers with her own on a local community board. And more bizarre and frankly shocking behaviours that have continued even to this day.
It was confronting, and honestly, very isolating. These weren’t just a one-off. I’d felt similar energy in the yoga world too. In spaces that are meant to be built on healing, there can often be comparison, scarcity and a deep fear of losing clients or others being ‘better’.
A mindset of competition over collaboration.
The Impact of Isolation in the Healing Space
At the beginning, I took it personally.
I questioned myself. Why don’t they like me? What did I do wrong? Is this me… or the industry?
And slowly, I started to pull back. I stopped reaching out, and stopped engaging with other healers. I kept my head down and focused on my own path.
On one hand, this helped me build resilience. It strengthened my intuition, my boundaries, and my ability to trust myself. But on the other hand…it was really lonely.
Because healing — especially energy healing, Reiki healing, and spiritual healing — can already feel like walking an invisible path. And when you’re doing that without community, it can feel even heavier.
You’re Not Meant to Do This Alone
There is so much we hold as healers.
We hold space for others. We process energy. And we navigate emotional depth, spiritual experiences, and sometimes things that are very hard to explain to people outside of this world.
When you don’t have a space to be in that, to talk about it and share openly, it can build up. This is also why it can feel so hard to admit when something didn’t go well, or talk about challenges you face in your Reiki business.
It’s especially difficult when you inevitably make mistakes or are uncertain about something you’ve never encountered before. Asking questions without fear or judgement is scary and one I really struggled with – not because I thought I knew it all, but because I didn’t. And when I reached out for help…I was met with closed doors.
When you’re isolated, everything feels more exposed.
From Competition to Discernment and Growth
Looking back now, I can see that those early experiences taught me so much.
They taught me how to strengthen my energy field, and to protect my energy. They taught me to trust my intuition, and develop a much deeper sense of self belief. Those experiences were key in teaching me spiritual discernment, how to stand on my own two feet, and most importantly of all, that I have everything I need within me.
They pushed me to grow
But they also showed me something equally important – that this isn’t how it has to be.
Why Community Changes Everything
Over time, as I did my own healing, something shifted. I became more grounded in myself, and much more confident in my path. I didn’t care what other people thought or did.
Something interesting happened…other healers started to reach out. Connections started to form, conversations opened, and support finally began to flow.
Because when you’re no longer operating from fear or scarcity, you naturally attract something different. You create space for community.
Community Creates Safety — And Safety Creates Growth
When you’re in a safe, like-minded space with other healers, it’s safer to soften.
You realise you’re not the only one who’s experienced challenges. Hearing other people’s stories you think, oh… me too. You gain perspective, clarity, and support.
Suddenly you grow faster, because you’re no longer processing everything in isolation.
You have space to talk through your challenges, time to reflect, and you feel less alone. You can laugh about things together, and receive support, even if it’s in the form of a simple conversation.
In community there is shared wisdom, a place to process your emotions, and get your needs met. It makes it easier to own your mistakes, learn from them, and integrate the lessons. You get motivated and inspired to keep moving forward, without shame.
Why I Created the Reiki Healer Community Circle
This is exactly why I created my Reiki Healer Community Circles.
It’s not another training, and it’s not a place to “perform” or be perfect, but rather as a space where you can be real, share openly and talk about both the magic and the challenges. You can connect with other like-minded healers and feel supported, seen, heard and understood.
Because this spiritual work isn’t always easy. And you shouldn’t have to navigate it alone.
Collaboration Over Competition
There is more than enough space for all of us.
More clients. More opportunities, and more growth. There is no need to compete, when what we really need is to support each other. Some of the most beautiful moments in my journey have been supporting my students as they started their own Reiki businesses, referring clients to other healers when I’m booked out, and watching other practitioners grow and thrive.
Because when one healer rises, we all rise. We are all adding to the collective field of consciousness.
